Viewers are, of course, always looking for ways to better understand their data. Showing data on a map alone&mdash;customer locations for monthly sales, for example&mdash;provides quick and easy insights. However, it doesn&rsquo;t allow you to see trends, like volume of sales. Advanced map-based visualizations like thematic and heat maps allow for greater extrapolation of such data. The focus of this blog is on heat maps, specifically a new heat map app that we recently released.</p>

It allows customers to purchase vector and tiled datasets using Open Data Protocol (OData) specifications. Available datasets include weather, crime, <a href="https://datamarket.azure.com/dataset/88e53c62-ebab-4113-89cd-3332fd136ba8">demographics</a>, <a href="https://datamarket.azure.com/dataset/700445fa-ed6f-4d2d-99e6-70863c7d3ce6">parcels</a>, plus many other layers. The OData working group has been looking at full spatial support for this <a href="http://www.odata.org/blog/2011/5/3/geospatial-data-support-in-odata">specification</a>; in the meantime, DataMarket datasets can still be used with geospatial applications and Bing Maps...</p>

DataConnector&rsquo;s open-source framework allows you to get started quickly, reuse existing code/best practices, and focus on your application requirements and data.</p>
