OnTerra Systems Introduces MapSavvy Aerial Imagery Service

Jan 31, 2011 | Uncategorized

DENVER, Colo., Jan. 31, 2011 – OnTerra Systems (www.OnTerraSystems.com), a technology leader in Web mapping, fleet optimization, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) integration solutions and services, today introduced MapSavvy WMS: an affordable aerial imagery service based on Bing maps.

OnTerra Systems’ new aerial imagery service provides an inexpensive way to access Bing maps images needed for practical business use, research, or government purposes – such as aerial-view site images that need to be included in architecture and engineering drawings, proposals, and reports; utility, transportation, and pipeline planning; Homeland Security; and any endeavor that requires detailed maps or high-resolution imagery. MapSavvy WMS works with popular WMS clients such as AutoCAD, MapInfo, MicroStation, QGIS, GlobalMapper, and Gaia.

A long-time Microsoft Business Partner, OnTerra has a license to access Bing maps imagery, and has developed the MapSavvy aerial imagery service. Users can capture a Web map image via MapSavvy WMS and integrate it into a document, so it can be printed as part of the document itself. (Functionality is contingent on the type of WMS software client that’s being used.) Maximum size of the images that can be captured is 2,000 pixels by 2,000 pixels.

“Web mapping images are being incorporated more and more frequently into architecture and civil engineering drawings, along with pipeline, transportation, and utilities infrastructure project documentation,” noted Steven Milroy, OnTerra Systems president and co-founder.  “The MapSavvy aerial imagery service provides an inexpensive way to capture still images from Bing maps, and the application is very easy to use.”

“In addition, Bing maps provides the most extensive and detailed worldwide coverage of earth mapping,” said Mr. Milroy.  “OnTerra partnered with Microsoft to bring this image-capture application to market, and it provides for extensive worldwide coverage at an incredibly affordable price.”
